Powerwave make amplifiers for mobile base stations and have an alliance with Filtronic in the UK. Filtronic make filters which go on the front of those amplifiers. Basically, every amp needs a filter. Yesterday Powerwave announced that they have bought the Ericsson Amplifier division. Powerwave will have preferential status when bidding for Ericsson contracts - Powerwave's competitors should be mighty pissed off. Ericsson are massive in the mobile world, alongside Nokia etc. Every amp Powerwave sell to Ericsson will potentially be combined with a Filtronic filter - this should lift Filtronic's share price. Hasn't happened today but then the link-up isn't immediately obvious to the average punter. Dividend of 2.7% paid in the last 4 years. 5. We have £1900 to spend. We decided to put £900 in Filtronic. For the other £1000 we voted on Rathbone, Bllomsbury and Hornby. Hornby won. Mark will buy Filtronic tomorrow. Hornby Weds Thursday. High sell price +30%, low sell price -20%. 6.
